Professor Eli Friedman has a PhD in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and has been in the Department of Global Labor and Work at Cornell University’s ILR School since 2011. His primary areas of interest are Asia, development, social movements, education, urbanisation, work and labour, and migration. Professor Eli had written extensively on education for rural-to-urban migrants in China and how the Chinese government has responded to labour unrest. He is currently studying how China’s incorporation into the global economy impacted workers in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, from the 1980s to present.
